You may have toured The Lodge at Avalaire during the Parade of Homes back in October, or read one of the articles featuring the home like this recent spread in Home Design & Decor Magazine, but much of the untold story of this one-of-a-kind estate lies in the details installed by our vendors and trade partners. Take a look at the products and techniques used on the exterior of The Lodge.

The cladding is a premium siding product from James Hardie known as the Artisan Collection. This highly durable and striking product is twice as thick as traditional Hardie siding, providing a weighty look and deep shadow lines that fit the masculinity of The Lodge’s design. Like all James Hardie products, Artisan siding is engineered for durability in harsh climates and comes with optional Colorplus® technology for built in UV resistant color.

The slate roofing is of a different breed as well – introducing Ply Gem’s Engineered Slatecomposite product which was installed on the Lodge by Gardner Roofing. Ply Gem’s new flagship roofing material is ultra durable, lighter and cheaper than real slate, and comes in a variety of color choices with a color fade warranty. Best of all for the environmentalists, it is made with 100% recycled plastics!

One of the most interesting techniques employed on the exterior of The Lodge is displayed in the fantastic masonry by Custom Stone NC. We selected a bulky natural stone called Weatherface Block and Strip comprising a palette of tans, taupes, and dark greys and we wanted it laid in a symmetrical, blocky pattern. Raised and tooled joints, however, is what gives the stone its signature textured look. After the stone is laid the masons revisit each joint, overfill it with mortar, then come back and shape the joints with a trowel until it’s perfectly sloped on the sides and smooth on the face. The look is intensified by shadow lines from uplit landscape lighting at night.

Allowing those inside the dwelling to enjoy the outdoors, Jeld Wen Siteline windows and doors wrap the home with high tech, self cleaning glass. Yup, this glass has a transparent coating that uses UV radiation to break the bond of dirt and dust on the window for easy rinsing from rain or a hose.

Thank you to all of our partners for making this dream home come true! We’ll cover the outdoor living space in a later Vendor Spotlight, as well as many of the interior spaces.  Contact us with any questions by emailing info@bosthomes.com or calling (919) 460-1983.
