We’ve welcomed two summer interns into our team this year, both of which are passionate about careers in residential construction. Meet Aidan Jeffs, a 19 year old student at Appalachian State University pursuing a Construction Management Degree, currently accruing hands-on experience as an assistant to Project Managers Grant Dickens and Brad Nealy. Aidan’s connection to Bost Homes is a longstanding one; we built his family’s home in 2001 when he was a toddler, and then remodeled their subsequent home when Aidan was older in 2011. It makes us proud that Aidan has decided to take an interest in custom home building and Bost Homes as a desirable career path, and it’s our pleasure to offer him hands-on experience in construction management during his summer break. He is proving to be a hard working and passionate addition to our team. So Aidan, what’s your story?

Where are your from, how old, and what’s your current status as a student?

I am from Cary, NC and was born on August 28th 1998 (19 years old). I will be a attending my Sophomore year at Appalachian state this fall.

What initially got you interested in design/construction? How’d you find out about Bost Homes?

Growing up I lived in a home built by Bost homes, which really opened up my eyes to this industry and made me want to learn more about custom home construction.

What are your goals with this industry? What’s the most exciting part of being involved in design/construction?

My goals for this industry are to learn as many hands on techniques as I can, so I can take them into the workforce when I’m looking for jobs out of school. Right out of school I hope to become a project manager for a custom home company for a few years before trying to start my own building company.

What are your hobbies, or favorite things to do that are not related to work/school?

I love to watch and play sports mainly football and basketball. Enjoy the outdoors like fishing, hunting, hiking. Am a big eater and enjoy making homemade foods.

What’s been your favorite part of working at Bost Homes so far?

Learning and making great relationships with everyone on the jobsite.

Next up, Meet Lira Gomes, a summer intern that is interested in the design side of residential construction and is working in our office. Lira gave us a call back in early spring stating her interest in interning with us this summer as part of her schooling at Cary High School. We are happy to welcome this bright student into our office team for the summer for some “real world” experience. So Lira, what’s your story?

Where are your from, how old, and what’s your current status as a student?

I was born in Bangladesh but moved to NC when I was 1 years old. I am about to turn 17 year old and I am going to be a senior in high school this fall.

What initially got you interested in design/construction? How’d you find out about Bost Homes?

Although I’ve been pretty creative throughout my school life, high school is when I really got interested in design and architecture with the interior design classes I took. I found out about Bost Homes online when I was in search of a internship.

What are your goals with this industry? What’s the most exciting part of being involved in design/construction?

My goals with this industry is landing a job in a home construction company as a designer or architect. The most exciting part about being involved in design is that I finally get to do something that I like to do because most of my school life is filled with required classes that don’t always interest me. I also love the idea that in design and architecture I get create something of my own for others.

What are your hobbies, or favorite things to do that are not related to work/school?

Like every other teenager I enjoy watching Netflix whenever I can, hanging out with friends, and I also love doing random art projects or DIY’s. I absolutely love traveling to different countries and experiencing their food and culture.

What’s been your favorite part of working at Bost Homes so far?

Viewing and touring the homes that the company built has been my favorite part of this internship. I get to see different designs and how each style can be presented in a beautiful way.
